I give these cookie cutters two stars for their cuteness, but I may end up only using them as decorations themselves--not for cutting out cookies. They are painted and are made in China, and although this particular product has not been part of a recall as of December 1, 2007 (as far as I know, that is), it seems highly possible they were painted with lead paint.Perhaps the amount of lead that would leech into the cookies would be trivial, but I personally am not willing to take the chance. Certainly don't buy these as a gift for young children with the idea they might use them with play-dough, etc.
